My name is Irene, and we return to the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 22, as Jesus is arrested:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><sup>47<\/sup><\/strong>While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, <strong><sup>48<\/sup><\/strong>but Jesus asked him, \u2018Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>49<\/sup><\/strong>When Jesus\u2019 followers saw what was going to happen, they said, \u2018Lord, should we strike with our swords?\u2019 <strong><sup>50<\/sup><\/strong>And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.<\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>51<\/sup><\/strong>But Jesus answered, \u2018No more of this!\u2019 And he touched the man\u2019s ear and healed him.<\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>52<\/sup><\/strong>Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, \u2018Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? <strong><sup>53<\/sup><\/strong>Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour \u2013 when darkness reigns.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Take a moment, and reflect: have you ever experienced the hurt of betrayal? How did that feel? Perhaps you can even think of a time when you betrayed someone else! Now, imagine how Jesus must have felt as He was betrayed by His closest friends.
