{"id":768,"date":"2016-02-10T19:15:59","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T19:15:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.clincarthill.org.uk\/?p=768"},"modified":"2016-02-10T19:20:13","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T19:20:13","slug":"message-from-our-locum-joan-kilpatrick-feb-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clincarthill.org.uk\/index.php\/message-from-our-locum-joan-kilpatrick-feb-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from our Locum \u2013 Joan Kilpatrick \u2013 Feb 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friends<\/p>\n<p>We seem to be moving along at quick at a pace this year mainly due to the fact that Easter is very early, by the time you read this Lent will almost be upon us \u2013 Shrove Tuesday on the 9<sup>th<\/sup> and Ash Wednesday on the 10th!<\/p>\n<p>Our Lenten Bible Study will begin on Sunday, 14<sup>th<\/sup> with a film called The Way starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez also wrote and directed, the principal character (a father played by Sheen) walked the Way of St. James learns that his son has died on the route and takes up the pilgrimage in order to complete it for his son, we will watch the film on the first week then follow the study book which is entitled The Long Road to Heaven.\u00a0 It\u2019s a powerful story of love, forgiveness, acceptance and letting go.\u00a0 If you would like to join us please let me know so we can order the books.<\/p>\n<p>Lent is a time when we follow Jesus as He prepares to face the Cross.\u00a0 It\u2019s not an easy for Him or the disciples as they begin to understand why Jesus has come and where it\u2019s leading Him.\u00a0 It often give us an opportunity to look at our own lives in light of Jesus\u2019 sacrifice on our behalf.\u00a0 Perhaps there are things we need forgiveness for, or need to forgive others.<\/p>\n<p>At our last Healing Service we heard about how crippling it can be if we don\u2019t forgive or allow forgiveness into our lives, it can affect our physical health as well as our spiritual health.\u00a0 It can be a barrier to Jesus\u2019 love and compassion for each and every one of us, so we need to be courageous and come before Him and hand ourselves over to Him.\u00a0 It\u2019s really important we understand that His greatest desire is for us to recognise the sacrifice He made to SET US FREE!\u00a0 He\u2019s only too delighted when we turn to Him for help, help which will renew our well-being, refresh our spirit and bring peace into our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer is such an amazing gift!\u00a0 With that in mind, Linda Philip, our prayer co-ordinator, is launching the trypraying initiative which is for those who don\u2019t come to church, but it gives us an opportunity to read the 7-day devotional and pass it onto we might know who doesn\u2019t go to church.\u00a0 There is a Lenten Devotional as well which Linda can order if you are interested.\u00a0 Their website is:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trypraying.org\">www.trypraying.org<\/a> where there is more information.<\/p>\n<p>However you spend this time of Lent I\u2019d like to leave you with a prayer which, I personally, find helpful:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Jesus our Saviour \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0Take the long list of sin<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Take our rubbish \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0that warps our being<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The greed indulged \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0and weave Your forgiving love<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The broken promises \u00a0&#8211;
