#HolyWeek2021 – Good Friday Reflection 7: Jesus Dies

Our Good Friday reflections continue. My name is Roger, and we return to the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 23, as we reach the moment of Jesus death:

44It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Take a moment and reflect: This was no ordinary death. Jesus, God in human form, has died. The Son of God, eternally loved by His Father in Heaven is now separated from Him. In this moment, Jesus is experiencing the consequences of sin, and for a simple reason: so we don’t have to. Jesus took this upon Himself so that we would be set free from sin’s consequences, if we have faith in Him. In a moment of still quiet, meditate on this Truth, and what it means for you.
